Mrs. Megan Moran Behnke, M.S., NCC
Greetings! My name is Megan. I was born in Northeastern Pennsylvania and graduated from Marian Catholic High School in 2005. I then graduated from West Virginia Wesleyan College in 2009 with my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education (K-6). After my student teaching rotation, I received the 2009 Outstanding Student Teacher Award. I have a current teaching certificate issued in the state of West Virginia. During my time at WVWC, I was a member of the championship Track and Field and Cross Country teams, was named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll, was a member of a Division 2 National All-Academic Team, and participated in the middle distance running events and heptathlon. I was a member of the Alpha Xi Delta fraternity, where I served as Chapter Life Vice-President, and President and I was named the 2009 Greek Woman of the Year. I graduated in 2012 from the University of Scranton where I earned my Master of Science Degree in Elementary & Secondary School Counseling. I was honored with the Outstanding Graduate Student Award for the School Counseling Program from the University of Scranton, and was recognized by the Chi Sigma Iota Counseling Academic & Professional Honor Society, as well as by the American Counseling Association for my work as an upcoming leader in the field of professional counseling. I am a current member of the American School Counselors Association (ASCA) and a former member the Pennsylvania School Counselor Association (PSCA). I have presented at state level school counseling conferences about the role of the professional school counselor and the importance of a data-driven school counseling program. I worked as an elementary school counselor with the Palisades School District from August, 2011-January 2013.
I moved to Aarhus, Denmark in January 2013 and have been working as a teacher, IB Primary Years Programme Coordinator (curriculum leader), and part-time School Counsellor at Aarhus International School since 2013. Working with the international community has highlighted the need for high-level mental health services for expat families, third-culture kids, and Danish families who choose an international educational path. I have learned Danish and can now call this my second language, and have extensive experience working with Aarhus Kommune and the International Baccalaureate.
I really enjoy spending time outdoors and love running! I have competed in triathlons and road races on two-continents. I love all sports and am excited for a great summer with the tennis championships at Wimbledon and the US Open, the World Cup in football, and amazing cycling at the Tour de France. I also love reading and always have my head in a book!
I spent time travelling and in 2007 I lived abroad in Belfast, Northern Ireland. I have been to a number of other countries including Canada, Denmark, Germany, France, the Dominican Republic, England, the Republic of Ireland, and Scotland. I really love traveling and someday hope to visit many other places. I also really enjoy photography and wanted to share some pictures from my travels! =)
